According to the paper, a senior banking executive indicated that one of the majors could look to reduce their standard variable interest rates before winter, if current lending margins remain stable.
In the last few weeks, the major banks have experiences some easing as far as costs of funding is concerned. Some of the banks may be prepared to share these savings with potential borrowers in a bid to attract new customers. Given the very competitive environment, it is reasonable to assume if any one of the banks decides to reduce their rates, the others will follow suit.
